This Active Ingredients Risk & Safety Advisory Policy explains the risks associated with using active skincare ingredients, including acids, retinoids, brightening agents, and botanical extracts.
This Policy forms part of the Medical & Cosmetic Disclaimer, Terms of Service, Parallel Import Notice, and Returns Policies.
1. Overview Modern Korean skincare includes a variety of powerful active ingredients designed to exfoliate, brighten, or rejuvenate the skin.
These ingredients may carry risks, especially for:
· Sensitive skin
· Reactive skin
· Customers using multiple actives
· Customers with underlying skin conditions
· Pregnant or breastfeeding customers
· Customers unfamiliar with proper layering

2. Examples of High-Risk Active Ingredients Certain ingredients require careful use:

3. Patch Testing Requirements All customers must perform a 24–48 hour patch test before full use. Apply a small amount to the:
· Inner forearm
· Behind the ear
· Jawline (optional low-risk area)
Stop immediately if you experience:
· Burning
· Redness
· Swelling
· Hives
· Rash
· Itchiness
Failure to patch test is considered customer misuse.
4. Layering Risks & Ingredient Interactions Some actives should not be combined in the same routine without professional advice. High-risk combinations include:
· Retinol + AHA/BHA
· Retinol + Vitamin C (L-AA)
· Vitamin C + Niacinamide (depending on sensitivity)
· Multiple exfoliating acids in one routine
· Harsh actives used during pregnancy/breastfeeding
· Using actives on broken or damaged skin
AH-RIN is not responsible for adverse reactions caused by improper layering or routine building.
5. Reactions vs. Defects Most reactions to actives are not defects. These include:
· Tingling
· Temporary redness
· Purging
· Dryness
· Light peeling
· Breakouts due to actives
· Sensitivity after overuse
These are normal responses for many active ingredients, especially during “adjustment periods.” Only proven manufacturing defects qualify under the Warranty & Defective Goods Policy.
6. Environmental & Storage Risks Customers must store products:
· Away from heat
· Away from sunlight
· In a cool, dry place
· With lids tightly closed
Heat exposure can cause:
· Texture changes
· Ingredient breakdown
· Vitamin C oxidation
· Product separation
These are not defects and are not eligible for refunds.
7. Pregnancy, Breastfeeding & Medical Conditions Customers who are pregnant, nursing, or undergoing medical treatment must consult a healthcare professional before using:
· Retinol
· Strong exfoliating acids
· Brightening agents
· Essential oil-based formulas
· High-strength Vitamin C
AH-RIN does not provide suitability guidance for pregnancy or breastfeeding.
8. Ingredient & Religious Restrictions (Middle East, Asia, EU, etc.) Some actives or formulas may not be accepted in regions that follow strict ingredient controls, including:
· UAE
· Saudi Arabia
· Qatar
· Kuwait
· India
· Indonesia
· Select EU jurisdictions
Restrictions may apply to:
· Alcohol
· Snail mucin
· Fermented extracts
· Fragrance levels
· Non-Halal ingredients
· Animal-derived collagen
· Skin-lightening agents prohibited in some countries
· Preservatives restricted by local authorities
AH-RIN does not guarantee:

Customers must verify ingredient suitability before purchasing. Customs rejection for ingredient-related reasons does not qualify for refunds or returns.
9. International Formulation Differences Some brands create region-specific versions due to regulations. Therefore:

These differences are not defects.
